The real world starts
Here
Sipping chemical cocktails
Putting as many drops as possible
on that sugar cube
Then finding the
Electric Gods
Of the universe
Saying verses that no one remembers
Untill we alight our minds again
Coming down? No.
Light a fatty and bring me
Back up so that
I can fly again
How many lines can one do
In the too very short evenings?
We are about to find out.
Then give me that vowel that
makes me so happy again
Going to "ONE" raves
(Just try to figure that, one, out)
Hippie flipping, Train riding, E-Busing
And hoping those familiar squad cars are really
Firetrucks, because, once again we broke
All the rules
"Theres no fire man. It's raining!"
Shouts one of our party
The firemen just laugh and have us go on our way
Broken windows
High alight the bus, didn't care till we came down
Maybe in a day, maybe in a week
Temp. Agencies not knowing what to do with us
Just making enough dough to get to the
Next high
And how did that leave us?
Alive to the universe.
Dead to the world.

And in the daylight we can hitchhike to Maine
I hope that someday I'll see without these frames
And in the daylight I don't pick up my phone
'Cause in the daylight anywhere feels like home

Voilà! In view, a humble vaudevillian veteran, cast vicariously as both victim and villain by the vicissitudes of Fate. This visage, no mere veneer of vanity, is a vestige of the vox populi, now vacant, vanished.
